CHAPTER 8 February: Life Full Of Surprises....

11:24:00 Rameeth 0 Comments

The life of an engineer is always with full of surprises. Sometimes the person gets into deep troubled thoughts and the next moment the feeling at the top of world just like an A.C current. You don’t need to go for at the amusement park for thrill ride and fun “Engineering” will get you everything what you need.
After the unit test Ragav got a chance to go home. A fresher staying away from home will always look for a window of opportunity to go home. He packed his bags then he left to stand, he usually would get 4:30 PM bus and also it was convenient for him to get home. As he was Anxiously waiting for the bus on the bus stand he saw a girl sitting next to his chair in the waiting room. With tied scarf around her face was talking on the phone. God knows why these girls try to hide their beauty behind 1mm thin cloth. When the bus arrived Ragav got his bags and started to board the bus. When the whole busy passenger crowd was busy in boarding the bus he saw that she was inquiring about her reservation seat with the conductor of same bus. Before entering into the bus Ragav heard part of the conversation between them “Seat No 14”. luckily Ragav got Seat No 17 the whole vacant seat the other side to 14. Still he wasn’t concerned about the “The Girl in Scarf”.
When a person is hit with the boredom he tries everything to get rid from it. One best solution is reading Novels. As the Journey begun Ragav tried to read “3 Mistakes of Life” which was one of famous novel among the youngsters at that time. As he was Deep in thoughts and into reading book conductor arrived to get the tickets. Ragav took the ticket and when “The Girl in Scarf” was giving her ticket the scarf fell from her face and Bingo a familiar face Ragav was eager to see there she was … “Arya”...
This turned out to be the most unexpected surprise of his life. Sometimes luck doesn’t play all the role the fate of the person matters a lot and today everything was at his side. With this distracted thought he pretended to read the book but he couldn’t. Holding the book upside down and pretending to read the book he made up his mind “Dude, this is it I should talk to her”.
After 3 hrs of journey the bus stopped at a dhaba for dinner. As every passenger was leaving for the dinner he saw she was talking on the phone with face resting on the side bars. “She is beautiful” Ragav thought in his mind when he was trying to get glimpse of her face in low dim bus light. He waited and after she ended her call then asked.
“Arya you want something?? Should I get you something??”
With the sleepy face and surprised eyes she tried to recognize the Ragavs face.
“No you don’t know me I’m Ragav I was in your division for two weeks when our college started.”
“Ohh … no thank you I am not hungry right now”
“OK”
Good Start for a guy… After the dinner Ragav came back to his seat.
Arya “where you gonna get down”
Ragav “2 stops after the ghat area”
“okk”
Arya “Do you wanna share my seat? I guess there’s no one”
Ragav “I think  there’s a bag under your seat may be someone got down for dinner”
Arya “Ohh …”
Though it was 2 mins conversation it was better than nothing. Ragav was thinking about the conversation he just had with Araya. But one think struck his head very hard. “She was asking you to sit beside her but seat was occupied, then you could have called her to your seat Dumb!! What a waste!!”
Before getting down at his stop he saw Arya was sleeping. So he didn’t bother to wake her up to say good bye. Getting down the bus taking the bags in hand he started walking towards his house. But this time he felt something different and he looked back at the Bus. And there she was waving her hand saying good bye. Yes, that was it. She noticed him and waved him good bye. YUREKA! this was the milestone for the Ragav and a stepping stone of his amazing Engineering story…

CHAPTER 7 January : Everything has a beginning

09:46:00 Rameeth 1 Comments

The vacations turned to be best time for Ragav not only he enjoyed at but also he made added new friends to his friends circle. Everyone has the lump in his/her throat when returning to college. We humans have a tendency to think about the past more often than thinking about the present. Every had their flashbacks and good memories at their respective places. And shared with each other the things which were more special than their ordinary life at college.
January is the month of enjoyment and getting along the various youth festivals. Ragav and his friends were pretty excited about the thought of Annual Gathering and the traditional day because any engineer will never bunk these events in his career as these are the most memorable period of every year.
The first year students had organized an event at the college which was unique from its kind. Here every students participated at least in one event. Ragav and his roommate Akki also participated at G.K Quiz competition . Though their G.K knowledge was below the sea level still they decided to give it a shot and enjoy during the event. During their event the first round turned out to be general aptitude test round, Ragav was less interested in the test but was amazed with the new atmosphere created among the students. The event co-ordinators helped each other to co-ordinate during the event. Everyone was busy with some work. To know the result of the first round Ragav had to contact with the co-ordinator and there was this girl with a cute face with specs sitting at the desk giving the name of the shortlisted. With the rush to get the name ragav didn’t get the chance to look for her name on her badge. Never the less he never cared about the name as he was never interested in making friendship with any of girls. Akki got back from the crowd with dull face “Dude I have a good news and a bad one..What you wanna hear???”.
Ragav “whats the bad news?”
Akki “We got out from first round!”
Ragav “Ohh..and whats the good news?”
Akki “We got a participation certificate!”
Ragav “Get lost Akki!!!”
Akki “ I doesn’t matter we will try other upcoming event in our college..Chill”.
With this they decided to wander around the college and get the glimpse of various events going on around. Later during the day Ragav saw the same girl this time she was anchoring the felicitation ceremony. She had a great voice and was speaking like wind flowing through the valleys. She was looking prettier than any girl in that hall.
After the event Akki was chatting with the same girl. Ragav “ Akki i know you are expert in talking with unknown girls. But still how do you mange?”. Akki “ Don’t be formal with me ask what you need!”. Ragav “ By the way who was this girl you were talking after the event? “ Akki “Ohh She is in my division “ Ragav “What?? How can this suppose to be?” Akki “ Getting jealous of me ha?” Ragav “Not Really” AKki “ Then why are you investigating about the same girl?”Ragav “ i was just asking “ Akki” No one asking about the same person so many questions” Ragav “Just she looks prettier thats it. Whats her name by the way?” Akki “ Arya “ Ragav “ Ohh nice name, suits her personality...” Akki “ Dude you are not the same Ragav which i saw this morning you changed a bit asking about a particular girl.. what’s the matter going on?” Ragav “ cut the crap theres nothing!“
Ragav kept thinking about the event and the prettiest girl he saw that day. Now he got a new name “Arya” in his head...

CHAPTER 6 December: The Pressure Cooker...

00:21:00 Rameeth 0 Comments

College life was getting somewhat comfortable for Ragav. As he tried to be more flexible with his life just like other budding engineers. The biggest festivals of any engineering student are the semester exams. Though the student has not studied throughout the semester he can’t escape from studies during this period of life. He has to study and utilize each and every time available to pass the written exams. Its just similar to the pressure cooker where the pressure builds with a steady phase. The fresher is always tensed about these exams from the day one of the college. But still some of them manage to get the things going on smoothly.
Just like a normal student Ragav preferred to study at late night. But the problem is the more you study you will get hungry! The only available food source at late night was with those who lived nearby Kolhapur just like Ragav he had plenty of food stock available for 4-5 days. But this was not sufficient. There had to be an alternative to this and this MacDonald’s was a better option at the distance of just 5 mins by run! So these guiz whenever were hungry set off to their destination of food just like an owl. But getting to the destination was not an easy task, here the team work played a major role. It was the time to learn some team spirit. One of the roommate had to check on the sleeping guard at the hostel. The guards usually doze of till midnight but some of them stayed awake throughout the night.  Second had to climb the walls of hostel carefully and give a signal to indicate the further road is clear. Every hostel guy will become an expertise in this act and  stealth in their movement that they can beat the marine corps that took out the Osama Bin laden in his sleep!
Examination hall is the place where all the history are written and created. The students enter the hall with the fingers crossed and tensed mind. There’s a whole difference between an examination at high school and engineering, at school you strive hard to get good marks but here the first aim is to get passed in every subject with first class.  The first thing any student will do after getting the question paper in hand is scan the whole paper and check the total number of answers know to every question. If the number is more than 40 marks then its best to him else better luck next time. 3 hours in an examination hall is memorable event of engineer’s life. The time has to be managed while writing the paper. The key to get more marks is to attempt the whole paper with a proper representation of answers and diagrams. After the breath taking 3 hours the first remarkable question asked by friends is “Bhava, stunar kai paper???” (Dude, will you pass in this paper). And the discussion continues with cross checking the answers and other values.

Done with the exams it was the time to get going to a vacation. This was the relief time for everyone. Everyone before waving off good bye promised to call back twice in week which was nevertheless than a dream to come true but still with smile on face, Ragav set of to Bhopal for his vacations. The ancient city of Maharajas Bhopal is one of advanced city in Madhya Pradesh. Everyone in his family tree was an Engineer by profession except for Soumya which was banker, working at a bank in kerala. She was the next person after Reema in the family who helped him in many of his decisions later in his life...

CHAPTER 5 November: The Interrogation...

08:41:00 Rameeth 2 Comments

Whenever you hear a word “Viva” from any engineer at first impression you will think of the word “Divas” the models from the fashion industry.  The divas are more sexy and beautiful than a “Viva”. Viva will take the heart out of your body if your brain is not prepared to the questions shot by an External Examiner. Viva is the festive season of any engineering branch for any subject.  You can imagine a detective movie where the suspect is questioned to death and these movie makers always try to make the scene more interesting by adding hanging bulb over the table which is always in motion to and fro(God knows which paranormal power are helping the motion) and also the darkness to make the environment more serious.  The examiner know that you know only twenty percent of the knowledge and if you try to show the remaining part then you’ll come up the stories just similar to the aliens that they exist but no one have a proof to show their existence. The best part of any viva is to know the question asked in the interrogation form previous students in roll list. Ragav passed the entire viva with the average score but chemistry was more interesting. The examiner was a PhD and he asked such question to the students that it looked like he was conducting a research on the minerals found on the mars and asked to find the origin of that mineral. One of the best questions asked was “what will happen if you try to heat a open vessel filled with petrol???” . A normal guy always has a lump in his throat while heating a small vessel filled with water and this examiner was thinking about the petrol! However these examiners tried to test the basic knowledge in the subject and also tried to enhance the imagination power out of the text.
Submissions come hand in hand with viva. Engineers feel like they just changed their profession to a clerk during this period. If all the assignments are submitted from time to time you’ll never face the burden of submission but if you fail to do so then the night is converted in to a day and you have a pen to write and load of assignments to be submitted the next day. Sometimes the graphics sheets are even traced to get the sheets completed and for this you need only a plane glass and decent bulb. This is where you feel like a true engineer.

A Forest is best place for bird watching. Similar to a forest, college is best place for a human environmentalist.  Akki was the rock and roll guy. He never hesitated to speak to any person either sitting next to his seat in class or canteen. One day Ragav and his roommates were having fun at the canteen. Suddenly Manoj spotted a girl sitting at the table next to them. Manoj said “ hey can see that beauty next to us? She’s the most beautiful among the freshers. And i bet that she don’t have a b.f”. with this comment the argument started between them about the statement “most beautiful girl in college”. Harsh didn’t agree about that statement and challenged Akki to make a friendship move to her. Akki accepted his challenge and went straight to her table and sat next to her. Soon they were having a conversation with smiles and laughers. When Akki returned every one among them were with wide open mouth and didn't believe what just happen. When Ragav asked “What did you chat about?” he replied with a wink “ It’s my secret”. Akki even succeed to get her number in the first encounter. Ragav was less interested in such things. He never liked chatting as he believed it’s a waste of time until the day that will change the meaning of chatting in his life.

CHAPTER 4 October : The Miracle...

09:24:00 Rameeth 0 Comments

The college seems to be coolest place for any fresher. Making friends at any college is never a big deal. The co-Ed system always tries to make the environment for everyone tension free and cozy for learning. Here girls and boys can make a group and have fun accordingly whenever they get some spare time apart from the academics   you’ll find the lectures more beautiful and interesting if you like the subject but if you didn't like the subject the teacher can be the reason to make you to get interested in the subject. Just like a normal kid, Ragav never liked the mathematics.  Even the lectures of maths seem to be boring for him. But one day there was a miracle, there was a substitute teacher for the lecture. The first thing any boy will outcry was “wow”.  Her name was Sneha she was in her thirties but still she looked like a student in their class. With this miracle the boring lecture seems to be more interesting and even though the toughest problem for everyone was simpler one. An American philosopher said “Everyone who remembers his own education remembers teachers, not methods and techniques. The teacher is the heart of the educational system”. You will never understand the true meaning of method and techniques but the word “heart” plays a major role for Ragav in this context.  If the heart wants to learn something apart from beatings and pumping the blood you should have a good teacher to teach. And mathematics turned to be most favourite subject for Ragav.
Back at the hostel, Ragav and room mates turned to be the most enjoying soles between the fresher. The endless late night playing cricket in the room was the important game they played. The chaos was too load that even the night guards were fed up with their nuisances. Once they bought playing card and the whole scene of the student’s normal dorm converted to club where everyone can come and play any choice of their game. But of course this had to done in being underground and also maintaining secrecy.
Apart from enjoyment the college studies also go hand in hand for an engineer. You have to write 10-12 assignment per week though the assignment is copied from others or self written. The assignments plays important role in the marking schemes of any engineer. If you as any engineering student “what are you doing tonight? Are you free?”. He will have only one default reply “No dude i have an assignment to write and has to submitted within 2 days..”. but still some of them managed to escape writing the assignments and have their own routing having fun.
The Ganesh festival is one of the vibrant times of Maharastrain Culture. Everyone has their way of celebrating this festival. Maharastiran bring an idol of God Ganesh which is worshipped for ten days. If you visit any corner of Kolhapur city you will find an Ganesh Idol decorated with flowers and gold within a pandal. The loud music system adds value to the pandals.Rajampuri the city centre for shopping is always crowed with pedestrians during this season. And its also best place to hangout with your friends and family.

CHAPTER 3 August II : Getting along with Engineering stuffs...

12:41:00 Rameeth 1 Comments

The rainy season is the most beautiful and romantic season in any tropical country just like India. Here every creature right from the tip of grass to the flying birds in the sky  show their beauty and happiness during this festive season. Just like the routine nonstop rains in Kolhapur the daily routine for Ragav was fixed.  6 AM getting up...9 AM attending college... 4 PM back at the hostel... even he always chose to sit at the first bench in the row as he had a misconception that getting along with last benchers can cause you more trouble .
The worst night mare of any fresher was getting a back log in the sem result and also backlog for the subject- Engineering  Graphics .  Those who successfully imagined the changing shapes and lines of squares and cones in their mind with wide open eyes can easily understand these subject but who failed to do so have to imagine the condole marks or just pass marks i.e. 40/100. Though this subject was easy to understand but a junior always makes a mistake by getting a advice from the senior. By creating multiple replicas of monster for this subject they implant into the minds of fresher. And with all the pressure of different monsters they try to study. Sometimes the advice from senior may also prove to worth taking now it depends on student to have it or discard it. Shivprasad helped Ragav to clear his doubts and also they belonged to same city. This helped him a lot.
Ragav attended the college daily with full sincerity. The new syllabus for every new subject seemed to magical in nature. The most magical part for Ragav was to realize that he is studying in an engineering college and also he will be an engineer within four years. Such daydreaming is common for any Engineering students. If the lecture seems to be boring you can enter into an daydreaming stage and imagine the impossible that can create a history!
Ragav always tried to give answers to the questions asked by the teacher during the lecture. This was the plus point to his behaviour that even though he spoke less to the students in the class and also he knew some of the names in the class all the class got to know his name. Sid and Sam were his first classmates and they always occupied the first bench in the class and hardly talked with anyone. This made an impression in the mind of others that they are egoistic by nature but  were not. The reason behind this egoistic nature as the class thinks was being homesick for the first time in life. You ask any fresher staying at a hostel about their saddest moment they’ll say “Staying away from home”. Such was the case with Ragav and others. He never missed a single holiday to get home for the weekend and meet his family. Staying away from the loved ones and family is the hardest part of any human in the world even though he has all the luxurious things in the entire universe.
Thud ! Thud ! Thud! ...  noise on the door. Everyone in the room were in deep sleep and no one in the room cared to open the door. Again Thud! Thud ! Thud! This time something was wrong in hostel. When Harsh checked the clock it said “4.30AM” and opened the door there was this warden “Get out you all lazy buts ! Get ready and go to parade ground!!” . No one was aware what was this for. Then with a click Manoj said “ Bharat Mataki Jai...!!”.  It was the Independence Day and the day when everyone becomes a truly patriotic and vows many thoughts to mother India. Its not a problem of being patriotic but only showing the patriotism for a single day in a year is worth thinking. A KIT hostel guy will never forget the 15 Aug in their whole life. And also wardens warnings in “typical Marathi” which helped to keep sense of being Indian alive.

CHAPTER 2 August: With Shri Mahalaxmi’s blessings...

09:51:00 Rameeth 0 Comments

Ragav packed all the essentials needed that were needed at the Engineering hostel. Everyone in the neighbourhood greeted him well wishes for his future.  For them it was not a surprise because he lived in an Water Project  area where you will find min two engineer in a family. Its it true that 1.5 million engineers pass out every year and Ragav was one of them not a big deal.
Kolhapur the historic city situated at the banks of river Panchganga founded by Chhatrapati Tarabai and  under the reign of Chhatrapati’s of Kolhapur, especially under the legendry Rajarshi Shahu Chhatrapati Maharaj and Rajaram Chhatrapati Maharaj is one of the best cities in Maharashtra. You will be first greeted with the word “bhava..” (Brother) and also other “typical” words you’ll get to hear only from a Kolhapurkar.
Just like the Indian Tradition whenever you start a new job or any good deed you always pray to the Gods and Goddesses in the heaven. Ragav and his family went to Mahalaxmi Temple to have the blessing for his bright future. Mahalaxmi Temple is considered as one of the holiest temple in hindu religion. The one who truly prays from the bottom of the heart will have the blessing of Mahalaxmi Godess . With all the blessings Ragav set to his destination that is his hostel.
The KIT is situated out of the city area, but still due to good highway facility you can reach there safe and sound without any efforts. Ragav got his luggage from the van and gazed to hostel building. The scene just appeared like the late 80-90s Bollywood movies where the prisoner is greated with Jailor and the Prisoner is cuffed in and sent to his cellars. Here though it appeared to be a student prison but still it was pleasant place on the first encounter. The warden of the Hostel was an ex army with having a good experience in handling the soldiers. These army people always behave in an attitude like they are at Indo-Pak border with collars tight and full discipline but still the soft corner remains in their heart. Thanks to warden’s discipline and also with new rules for the Anti Ragging the hostel was free from any ragging activities. At least Ragav didn’t need to fear the burden of seniors and their ways of torturing like the other hostels in big cities.
Ragav met with the room mates  and other  people around the hostel. Room mates are just like the family members, even family members don’t know the secrets about their kid but these room mates do. Akki , Manoj and Harsh were the room mates. Introducing and getting introduced was the major activity few days at the hostel . The food was available at the hostel mess. Though they didn’t provide the five star food but still you have to adjust with the condition( Remember the Theory of Adaptation).Still life seemed to be awesome at the hostel ....

CHAPTER 1 June : The Stepping Stone...

06:29:00 Rameeth 0 Comments

Most of the kids born in the Indian society has a dream either to become an Engineer or a doctor. And such dreams always come true only if you have a good score in the entrance exams. If you want any undergraduate degree you have to pass through these exams. Ragav always had a goal to become a Engineer just like his family members. He wished to become a Marine Engineer as he was attracted to fame and wealth in Marine industry.
After the hard working for the entrance exam at his coaching class and putting all the efforts to the middle of paddle the day arrived. The Result day! The whole family was eager to know the score of their boy and all his efforts. With everyone’s eyes dilated with the tension building up the score flashed on the computer screen “96/200”.
Only Ragav and his father knew the reality of the result. At that instance father said “Son your results are very poor to get a mechanical/marine branch. I don’t even know whether you will get a good Engineering College... have you seen the cutoffs of best colleges... blah... blah...blah” this was very similar like Japanese bombarded the Pearl Harbor in WW2. In between the full bombarding the other person who influenced his life was his elder sister Reema arrived to rescue him. She said “Father it’s better that he should go for Information Technology branch, with this score he can get a good college ". She was working with top MNC and also completed her degree from one of the reputed college in University. With the valuable suggestion at that time and also without any options on the way ahead in his life he chose to become a software engineer. It was really hard for Ragav to accept the reality but humans are really adaptable to any situations just like the Theory of Adaptation.
After the weeks of mock rounds fortunately and finally Ragav got the admission to KITs Engineering College for I.T branch which was considered as best college in south western part of Maharshtra.
Happiness filled in family about the son’s admission at Engineer college no one knew about the hurdles and mountains he has to climb ahead...

WHENEVER you ask an Engineer to write a essay on the topic "Life of an Engineer", the result of this will be a paragraph with few sentences. Engineers are never complicated they sometimes behave in a complicated manner that no one will understand their true behavior. I will take you to a life journey of a boy, who is simple by nature and behavior but his life is always  complicated and also filled with joys and sorrows... Stay Tuned For Action
